MANDATORY WATER RESTRICTIONS
MANDATORY WATER RESTRICTIONS
As previously posted, our region remains under a wide scale severe drought warning. Town staff continues to monitor the situation closely and there is increased concern over well levels. In order to move towards a decrease in water demand, the Town Manager has declared a drought warning for the Town and has ordered mandatory restrictions for the following uses of water with the goal of reducing water use in order to avoid an imminent water supply emergency.
a. Watering of shrubbery, trees, lawns, grass, plants or any other vegetation, except from a watering can or other container not exceeding three-gallon capacity;
b. The washing of automobiles, trucks, trailers or any other type of mobile equipment, excepting facilities operating with a water recycling system approved by the county or the town, or except from a bucket or other container not exceeding three-gallon capacity; provided, however, that any facility operating with a water recycling system must prominently display in public view a lawful sign stating that such a recycling system is in operation;
c. The washing of streets, driveways, parking lots, service station aprons, office buildings, exteriors of homes or multiunit residential buildings, or other outdoor surfaces, except from a bucket or other container not exceeding three-gallon capacity;
d. The operation of any ornamental fountain or other structure making a similar use of water;
e. The filling/topping off of swimming and/or wading pools or the refilling of swimming or wading pools which were drained after the effective date of the order;
f. The operation of any industrial, commercial or construction activity or process, including construction activity which uses water beyond the sanitary and drinking needs of employees, customers or visitors;
g. The use of water from fire hydrants for any purpose other than fire suppression; or
h. The operation of any water-cooled air conditioning which does not have water conserving equipment in operation.
The Town has already discontinued the use of all sprinklers on the Town Green and Zoldos Square/the “Squirkle,” and impacts of that will be noticeable soon. In addition, the Utilities Team continues to work diligently to identify any leaks. If you are contacted about a potential leak, please respond as soon as possible.
We appreciate your immediate assistance in protecting our town’s water supply that is absolutely essential to life, human health, and safety.
