Bicycle & Pedestrian Path
The Town’s Shared Use Path, located on the west side of S. Berlin Pike, provides safe non-vehicular travel from the center of Town to the intersection with Loudoun Street. The path is an eight-foot wide asphalt trail suitable for walking, running, biking and rollerblading. A southern extension of the path to the intersection with Lutheran Church Road is planned as part of the Heritage Highlands development.
The Town was awarded a total of $1,098,970 in Highway Enhancement Grant Funds and Loudoun County Gas Tax money to help complete this project and the Town and VDOT also provided some matching funds for this project. VDOT administered this project with the construction of Phase 1 being completed in November of 2015. The trail included the installation of underground storm water management facilities and curb and gutter on the west side of Berlin Pike along with the 8 foot asphalt path 4 foot behind the curb. Additional information can be found on VDOT’s Website.
Phase 2 of the project involves extending the trail along the west side of North Berlin Pike from the center of Town to the intersection with Tilgham Place. A portion of the path along the frontage of the development project Lovettsville Glen will be built as part of that project.
